Mrs Crossβ Class had an incredible day today, visiting Grinton in the stunning Yorkshire Dales, to explore, find and investigate rocks! The trip, which was organised by Mark Holmes and fully funded by the Tees-Swale Project (a huge thank you from everyone!), consolidated a lot of the rocks and geology knowledge the children had learnt in class.
The children learnt about the local terrain from Mark, then tested rocks that they had found for permeability, hardness and other features. The children had a chance to learn about the old mill buildings, then found some fossils of their own (in the sedimentary rocks!) to take home and treasure.
A super day, where all children discovered their hidden palaeontologist and even the sun peeped through to warm us through!

Hi Mr Peoples,
I just wanted to say what a pleasure it has been to have your Year 3/4 classes out to Swaledale this last few weeks. They were a credit to the school, sensible and attentive, and it was great to see them all exploring! My apologies for now filling the school with rocks and fossils – hope you have space!
Thanks,
Mark
Blake loved this. He brought his rocks home. Thank you so much for organising this for them all
