Bell class had great fun learning about the great scientist, Archimedes.
Archimedes was multi-talented; he was an astronomer, mathematician, inventor and scientist,
We found out how he worked for a King, how he was asked to investigate whether or not a local goldsmith had cheated with the quantity of gold included in his crown and how, after a bath, Archimedes realised that he could work this out by measuring the displacement of water. He was so excited that he apparently he jumped out of the bath and ran down the street shouting ‘Eureka!’.
Children used rocks of different sizes, a bowl of water and a ruler to carry out their own version. We found out that more water was displaced with bigger rocks and predicted what would happen with smaller rocks or less water.
Archimedes could have done with our help in ancient times!
This looks very interesting Bell! Good work
