Y3/4 battling for local 1066 signage.

After delving into our history topic this term of 1066, including learning about the local battle of Stamford Bridge on 25th September 1066, it was discovered that no reference to the battle taking place was on local signs or even on the welcome to the village signs in Stamford Bridge, near York. Despite lots of battle clues around the village, we decided that this needed addressing and a message was put out to our class bubbles and for home learners via Seesaw to write letters explaining why this should change and signs should include mention of this famous and local battle between the Viking invader, Harald Hardrada and King Harold of England.
Lots of letters were written at home and at school to East Riding Council, asking for reference to the Battle of Stamford Bridge on the village signage and a brown heritage sign leading curious visitors from main roads nearby. As you can see, there are a LOT of letters!
All Year 3/4 teachers signed the covering letter, as well as Mr Peoples, so we are now keeping fingers crossed that our arguments were respectful and persuasive enough to have a result! Watch this space, Applegarth historians! Your voices will hopefully be heard! 🌟⚔️🕵🏼‍♀️
