Story maps

We use story maps as a strategy to help us learn the elements of a book. This supports us by identifying story characters, plot, setting, problem and solution and the organisation of main events.

The children have created their own this week after reading the story  ‘After the Storm’ by Nick Butterworth.

  1. The children have loved this story and have been re- enacting the tale and telling me about the story. These maps help the children to sequence their thoughts, talking about the map then helps them to add vocabulary to their descriptions as the adults question and develop their descriptions.
Lots of ‘weather’ words used as well!
