Thank You Puffins and Penguins

What an exciting year it has been in Puffins and Penguins!  From aliens landing on the school field, a visit from an astronaut, a local artist and learning about our heritage, to ‘Ofsted Inspectors’ inspecting our school during rehearsals and performances of ‘Tinsel and Tea Towels’, the first term was full of fun and learning.

The Spring Term started with the children behaving like super heroes both real and imaginary.  Visits from Mrs Raymond and her amazing pet collection and taking part in the National Schools Birdwatch made for a busy and enjoyable start to the New Year. The excitement continued with a Snow Day in March.  The end of the Spring Term saw us starting to reflect deeply on ourselves as learners as we began our ReflectEd programme.  We are all trying to talk in full sentences and explain our thinking clearly to others especially in maths.

During this final term we have been out and about with fascinating visits to Fountains Abbey, The Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the Captain Cook’s Birthplace Museum and short trips into Northallerton, to the RAF centenary celebrations, local churches and to see the community’s response to the Tour de Yorkshire. The children have loved visiting the library this term and are all excited about the up-coming Summer Reading Challenge. These memorable experiences have stimulated the children’s imaginations and brought fabulous subject matter for their writing.

None of these events or the many sporting activities the children have enjoyed could have happened without the support of our parents. A big thank you to you all.  But, most of all, well done Puffins and Penguins, it’s been a great year.

Happy Summer,

Mrs Haworth, Mrs Crossley, Mrs Jackson, Mrs Vincent, Mr Rowland, Mrs Raymond.

  1. What a lovely photograph in the school grounds.
I am positive the children will remember fondly their many visits this year. The photograph will always remind us of the ‘hot summer’ – the dry, yellow grass on the field and finding shade from the trees that so many Applegarth children have planted.
    Thanks team!
