Food for Life Celebration

Our SNAG group was thrilled to be invited to Allerton Court this morning to participate in a Food for Life Celebration event following the award of our bronze certificate.

The children took part in a range of workshops including learning about how to use leftover ingredients to make a tasty meal (Emma said her parents will be thrilled because she’ll finally eat courgettes – as long as they’re in the same recipe!)

We took part in a workshop led by the North Yorkshire Rotters team who taught us about composting and trying to reduce food waste. Did you know that there is so much waster bread in our country that each day if you stacked it into a tower it would be as tall as the Shard?

We investigated different herbs and tried to identify them in different foods – including biscuits!

We also had to use super teamwork skills to work together in a game of Capture the Flag.

All in all a super morning’s learning which was topped off nicely with the presentation of our bronze award certificate by Herbie the carrot and local Councillors!

Well done everyone.

  1. A fabulous morning. We were so proud of our children as they represented the school. A massive thank you to Mrs Hobbs who has been leading the way with our Food, Gardening and Eco work for many years. Such a massive contribution to the life of the school.
This certainly meant we were already well on the way to achieving this Award when starting the project. Thanks to Mrs Jackson and the team.

  2. We all loved the food for life celebration we were so lucky to try new foods/drinks and learn how to have a healthier lifestyle.
