Riveting recounts

For children in Puffins and Penguins, yesterday was a first! The first day for them that our school has ever been closed due to the weather.  It provided a great opportunity for them today though – to build on their recount work from earlier in the term! Last week they were writing about their brilliant visit to Fountains Abbey, today it was a chance to write about what they did whilst off school.  It sounds like the children had so much fun – sledging, snowball fights, building snowmen and drinking GALLONS of hot chocolate! Lots of them did comment that they were upset that school was closed though!

  1. It was so good to read these second recounts not only to learn about what they had been doing on their ‘Snow Day’ but also to compare their writing with the visit recount. Some children having clearly understood how to improve on that writing by keeping to a clear sequence of events, using the full stops and capital letters to mark the start and end of their sentence as well as making a real effort to improve their handwriting. Some by making improving the formation of the letters, done by leaving that space between their words this time and some by maintaining their style throughout. All making their write more easy to read.
It is great to see both children and staff reflect on the learning and fir children to understand what they need to do next to improve.
    Well done everyone.

I am sure you will all remember the Snow Day of March 2018. Keep those Book Day Costumes safe and look out for our new day in the newsletter.
