Do Dragons Exist?

I am sharing some Dragon fun this week. The children have been so excited about this, I wanted to share some of the things we have enjoyed doing this week…..

It started off with the children either bringing in models or showing pictures of their castles they had made at home to the class. We were genuinely surprised at how much effort the children and families had put into this home learning task, making them so creative and individual.

In fact, so much interest was generated by these castles that we decided to seize the moment.

The children made finger puppets and created their own narratives around Dragons and Princesses. It was lovely to watch!

We have also been reading different stories and singing songs about Dragons.

We are so pleased this topic has gone off with a BANG!! I wonder what we will be doing next?

  1. It was fabulous to see the pride on the children’s (and parents) faces when they carefully carried their castles made at home into school this week.
Thank you so much for helping over the holiday. It certainly was a great start to the topic.

The staff in the Bees Classes are also delighted to have had delivered some very large boxes today. I can’t wait to see what they held!

I have a feeling our generous PTA had something to do with them.

  2. Freddie was so excited to make his castle this holiday. He had lots of ideas of things he wanted to add – I did have to put my foot down on some things though as they were impossible! It is lovely to see him continuing to enjoy his castle at school with his friends. This was definitely a project we both enjoyed!

  3. ‘Seizing the moment’. What super phrase. Using the ideas of the children to further generate their learning the children compared the castles, celebrated each other’s achievements and were able to use the scenes to generate their own role play.
A recommended read for the class ‘The Paperbag Princess’. It may be an old story but I’m sure that the children would love it.
The big boxes were very quickly opened and both contents and boxes used creatively.

  4. I saw the castles the children had made in Bees on Friday and have to say it was a really impressive display! The task has really captured the children’s imagination and they’ve put so much thought and effort into them all. Lovely to see that they’ve created their own stories around their castles too.

  5. Just wanted to say pearl is thoroughly enjoying her homework every week , we can’t believe how well she is coming on with reading and writing thankyou we are very proud x

  6. It’s what we call an inspirational
start to their topic. There has certainly been a lot of hard work going on over the holidays.

  7. Thank you so much for all your comments on this post. We all really enjoy reading them and today gives the perfect chance to have a look! We are so pleased that your children are enjoying the topic as much as we are. The reception/year 1 children have taken ‘home learning’ by storm and we are so impressed by the whole family involvement.

We hope you all have a fun SNOW DAY!!!
