Eco council meets Yorkshire Rotters

The Eco Council were in for a treat this morning!

The Yorkshire Rotters came in to talk to us about wormeries and recycling. There were three games – one of them was a wormery making activity using shredded paper, lettuce and soil with a few tiger worms. The smoothie making game involved a bike which you had to pedal and when you rode it, it span round with the blender on top and then it blended different fruits and vegetables into a drink. The final game was a target practice where we had to decide whether we reused, recycled, binned or composted the item.

We learnt that it is important not to just chuck things out without thinking.  Lots of things can be reused or recycled. Paper can be composted because it comes from a tree which comes from the ground and anything that comes from the ground can be composted.

We will try to recycle more and bin less and tell our friends about this too.

Thank you to Yorkshire Rotters and Mrs Hobbs who organised the visit.

  1. Thank you boys for a super report about your session today. I can’t wait to find out how you help us as a school develop our ecological awareness.

  2. Fantastic activity session led by Yorkshire Rotters and thanks to Mrs Hobbs for organising. Katie was really enthusing about the smoothie bicycle in particular and is still carefully looking after the worms!
