Berkeley DeVeer New Homes – Year 1

All our pupils in Y1 went to visit the building site on Romanby Road.  The visit was an opportunity to learn about some of the stages of the house building process and the materials used to build different parts of a house.  The children first went in a pre-board (empty shell) house which had just had some windows fitted.  It was interesting to listen to the children guessing whether each room was a kitchen, bathroom, lounge or bedroom.  The site manager showed us the plans which the builders worked from and it allowed the children to see the layout from different viewpoints.  Afterwards they went in the show house which interestingly was the same house as the first but it had all the furnishings.  The children were very impressed with the bedrooms and a group of five children even tried to squeeze into the shower cubical.  A huge thanks to Garry and his team for giving us this opportunity.
